About

Our Story

Founded in 2015, Caring For Family Caregivers emerged from a mix of love, passion, compassion, and frustration. The Geary Family's journey began in 2006 when Mother Eleanor, experienced a life-altering stroke. The aftermath left her without the use of her left side, ability to walk, and independence in personal care. As a family, there were numerous decisions to make and many unknowns regarding healthcare, Medicare, treatments, facilities, home modifications, mobility aids, and more.
Navigating the Unknown
Over the 18-month sturggle to establish a “new normal“ the Gearys encountered uncertainties about the healthcare system, nursing homes, and rehabilitation. As a primary caregiver, Vivian navigated uncharted territory, lacking a support network and comprehensive information. The frustration and uncertainty persisted during the adjustment period, with seemingly no other families sharing similar experiences. It took an additional year to become comfortable with the various elements of the new routine. It was a very frustrating time.
Belief in Support
We believe that no one should endure the challenges of family caregiving in isolation. Despite the inherent isolation of caregiving within one's home, Vivian believes that there should be avenues for seeking guidance, making tough decisions, or simply venting to someone who understands. Caring for Family Caregivers was conceived with the mission of making caregiving more manageable and empowering individuals to support their families effectively.
Growth from Challenges
Facing the absence of resources, Vivian embarked on extensive research, gradually creating a suport system. This period demanded hard work, but over the subsequent decade, Vivian's knowledge base expanded. As more individuals close to the Gearys assumed caregiving roles, Vivian could share insights and empathy with those beginning their caregiving journey or those who had been on this path for years.
